Hamilton Mestizo
Transdisciplinary Artist, Cultural manager, researcher, professor.

His practice stems from transdisciplinary research and creation, exploring concepts, media, and techniques at the intersections of science, art, and technology. From a critical and proactive perspective, he develops hybrid projects with the aim of exploring "technological alternatives" as an idea where research and experimentation seek to generate reinterpretations and new readings of the impact of technology on cultures, societies, and nature. His work encompasses the plastic and visual arts, design, sound, photography, and video, as well as digital and biological prototyping, programming and robotics, microbiology, and biotechnology, among others. His work has been exhibited in renowned museums, institutions, galleries, and festivals around the world.
He holds a PhD in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid (2023), and is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Design and Image at the same university (2025-31). He was a professor of design and new media (2024-25) at the University of Design, Innovation and Technology (UDIT) and at the University Center for Technology and Digital Art (U-TAD), both in Madrid. Between 2007 and 2014, he taught in the areas of design and physical computing at several Colombian institutions: in the Department of Design and Architecture (2008–2012) and the Faculty of Visual Arts (2014) at the Pontifical Javeriana University in Bogotá, as well as the Department of Film and Television at the National University of Colombia (2007).
He was the director of the program "BioCrea: Open Space for Creative Biology" at Medialab Prado (Madrid) during 2018 and 2019, where he led educational activities related to bioart, biohacking, and DIY biology. Previously, she worked at Parque Explora in Medellín (2016–2017), where she designed and coordinated the program of activities for the Exploratorio: Public Laboratory and Workshop for Experimentation. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with various public and private institutions, developing strategies and providing advice on pedagogy, educational innovation, and transdisciplinary practices.
